In the crucial session on the Marina Bay circuit on Saturday (26/9/2009) night, Jenson Button was only ranked 12th, while Rubens Barrichello two grid in front. Barrichello was fifth best time recorded during qualifying, but he hit back five grid penalty for changing girboks.
